Greater Noida, September 16, 2026: Volvo Construction Equipment India has commercially launched the EC650, a 65-tonne-class crawler excavator, at bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2026 in Greater Noida, expanding its heavy-equipment offering for mining and mass-excavation applications.
The EC650 is powered by a Volvo D13E engine delivering 435 hp. Volvo CE has equipped the machine with a heavy-duty undercarriage, boom and arm, and advanced hydraulics for demanding mining and mass-excavation work.
Volvo CE is positioning the EC650 for operations where excavators work under sustained loading conditions and require a combination of digging performance, durability and fuel efficiency. The company said the machine has been developed for intensive mining applications and is available for immediate delivery to mining customers.
Volvo’s current India product information lists the EC650 at an operating weight of 63,600 kg, with 340 kW gross power and a 4.6 m³ bucket capacity. The machine has a maximum digging depth of 7,429 mm and a maximum digging reach of 12,062 mm.
The EC650 sits in Volvo CE’s mining-focused display at the exhibition alongside the EC480 and L150 wheel loader. Volvo CE is presenting the machines as part of an application-led mining portfolio rather than as isolated product launches.
According to Volvo CE, the EC650 uses an electro-hydraulic system with Independent Metering Valve Technology, designed to improve hydraulic control and fuel efficiency. The company says the machine can fill a 40-45-tonne tipper in six passes when paired with the appropriate bucket configuration.
Alongside conventional sales, Volvo CE said the EC650 will also be available through its Equipment-as-a-Service (EaaS) offering. The model gives mining customers another way to access the machine while Volvo CE provides support across the equipment lifecycle.
The support package includes connected services, productivity solutions, repair and maintenance agreements, and application-led offerings. Volvo CE said these services are intended to support uptime, efficiency and overall site performance.
The EC650 is part of a wider Volvo CE display covering construction, compaction, mining and electric equipment. In the construction and infrastructure zone, the company is showing the EC210, EC215, EC220, EC300, SD110, DD90 and L120 Electric Wheel Loader.
The mining zone features the EC480, EC650 and L150, giving visitors a view of Volvo CE’s equipment range for both conventional construction work and heavier mining applications.
The EC650 launch comes as Volvo CE continues to expand its India-focused engineering and product development activities. The company has also announced investment in its Technology Centre in Bengaluru to support research and development, localisation and product innovation for Indian and global markets.
The EC650 gives Volvo CE a dedicated heavy mining excavator in the 65-tonne class for the Indian market. Its launch at bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2026 is notable not only for the machine itself but also for the combination of direct availability, EaaS access and lifecycle support that Volvo CE is bringing alongside the product.
For mining fleets, the relevant evaluation will remain practical: machine productivity, fuel efficiency, duty cycle, service support, availability and the economics of ownership or equipment-as-a-service.
