JCB India Plans to Double Manufacturing Capacity to 170,000 Machines by 2030

JCB India plans to double annual manufacturing capacity from 85,000 to 170,000 machines by 2030, backed by localisation, domestic infrastructure demand and export growth.

JCB India

New Delhi, September 16, 2026: JCB India plans to double its annual manufacturing capacity from 85,000 machines to 170,000 machines by 2030, as the company prepares for expected growth in the Indian construction-equipment market and rising demand from export markets. JCB India Managing Director and CEO Deepak Shetty disclosed the plan in an interaction reported on September 16.

The proposed expansion comes as JCB sees continued demand from India’s infrastructure and construction activity, while also increasing the role of its Indian manufacturing operations in the company’s global supply chain.

Capacity expansion to support domestic and export demand

JCB currently has annual manufacturing capacity of around 85,000 machines in India. The company plans to take this to 170,000 machines by 2030, effectively doubling its installed capacity.

The company expects India’s construction-equipment industry to grow by 9–12% during the current financial year, according to Shetty. JCB itself is targeting growth of around 12–14%, while it expects exports to increase by 15–20% during the year. These figures are company projections and should be viewed as such.

JCB’s Indian operations already have a significant manufacturing and export role. The company has previously described India as a major global manufacturing hub, with its facilities supplying both domestic and international markets.

Greater localisation across equipment

Localisation is another major component of JCB India’s manufacturing strategy. According to the latest report, backhoe loaders are around 96% localised, while excavators have reached approximately 65–75% localisation. The company is using greater local sourcing to reduce dependence on imports and logistics costs.

JCB has also continued to invest in manufacturing and engineering capabilities in India. The company currently manufactures more than 60 different products across nine categories in the country and exports equipment to more than 130 countries, according to previous company disclosures.

New applications for existing machines

The company is also adapting its equipment portfolio for emerging infrastructure applications. JCB is developing railway-related applications, including attachments that can allow existing machines to perform multiple tasks, according to Shetty’s latest comments.

This approach could allow JCB to expand the use of existing equipment platforms across infrastructure projects without relying solely on completely new machine categories.

Continued investment in India

JCB India invests approximately ₹200–500 crore annually in research and development and capacity expansion, according to the latest report. The company also exported approximately 14,000 machines last year and is targeting further export growth in the current year.

JCB’s expansion in India has been supported by investments in manufacturing facilities, including its Vadodara operation, which was established as part of the company’s strategy to increase manufacturing capacity and support global production.

India as a global manufacturing base

The planned increase to 170,000 machines would further strengthen India’s role within JCB’s worldwide manufacturing network. The company already exports machines and components from India, while continuing to expand local engineering and manufacturing capabilities.

For India’s construction-equipment sector, the expansion comes against a backdrop of continued infrastructure development and increasing demand for locally manufactured equipment.
