Volvo Group Creates Volvo Mining to Combine Trucks, Equipment and Autonomous Solutions

Volvo Group will launch Volvo Mining on 1 January 2027, bringing trucks, construction equipment and autonomous solutions into a dedicated mining structure.

Volvo CE Launches EC650 65

Volvo Group is creating a dedicated mining business, Volvo Mining, that will bring together the group’s trucks, construction equipment and autonomous solutions for mining customers and contractors. The new entity is scheduled to launch on 1 January 2027 and will be hosted within Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), according to a Volvo Group announcement dated 19 October 2026.

For mining contractors and fleet owners, the development is less about a single new machine and more about how Volvo intends to organise its mining offer. The group says Volvo Mining will coordinate products and services across Volvo CE, Volvo Trucks and Volvo Autonomous Solutions, while also taking a coordinating role in mining-related research projects across the group.

What Volvo Mining will do

Volvo Group says the new entity will manage the mining product and service portfolio globally and create a more integrated structure for customers. The planned offer spans construction equipment, heavy trucks and autonomous transport solutions rather than operating as a standalone equipment brand.

The organisation will initially focus on mining customers and contractors in Sweden, Norway and Finland, with phased expansion into additional markets. Volvo has not announced an India launch date for the entity, so Equipment Brief is not treating the global announcement as an immediate change to Volvo’s Indian sales structure.

Why the structure matters for mining fleets

Large mines typically operate mixed fleets across excavation, loading, hauling, road transport and support functions. A structure that coordinates equipment, trucks, autonomy and services can matter where owners want fewer interfaces between machine supply, fleet management and automation projects.

Volvo’s announcement also signals that mining will receive dedicated financial resources and portfolio-management attention. The company has not disclosed a separate investment value for Volvo Mining, and no such figure should be inferred from the announcement.

Autonomy is part of the mining proposition

Volvo Autonomous Solutions develops purpose-built autonomous transport systems that combine vehicles, a virtual driver, infrastructure, operations and logistics control. Bringing this capability into the mining structure could be relevant to repetitive haulage applications where controlled operating environments make automation more practical.

That direction also connects with broader industry interest in connected and autonomous equipment. Equipment Brief has previously examined electrification, automation and AI in construction equipment, as well as Volvo CE’s EC650 65-tonne mining excavator.

What equipment buyers should watch next

The immediate milestone is organisational: Volvo Mining is due to begin operations on 1 January 2027. Buyers should watch for three things after launch: which additional markets are added beyond the Nordic region, whether Volvo introduces mining-specific service or commercial packages under the new structure, and how the group combines conventional equipment with autonomous transport in customer deployments.

For India, the announcement is strategically relevant because the country has a large surface-mining and quarrying equipment market, but Volvo has not announced a local rollout timetable. Any India-specific product, dealer or autonomous-mining programme will need separate confirmation.
